Reading/ Phonics

Reading is a really important part of every year and in the Year 2 the children will be assessed using the Phonics Screening Test.  This is a national test and all the children must take the test. To prepare  the children for the test we use the Read Write Inc phonics scheme.  The children are familiar with this scheme and you may hear them talking about 'special friends', 'Fred talk' and 'Fred in your head' when they are reading or writing.

There are three different sets of sounds that the children work through. If you would like any further guidance on what this is or what you can do to help your child prepare please ask one of the Year 2 teachers.
