Reading

World Book Day- The Mysteries of Harris Burdlick

Why is reading important?

Reading is important because it develops the mind. Understanding the written word is one way the mind grows in its ability. Teaching children to read helps them develop their language skills and it also helps them learn to listen. The ability to read is a vital skill and it is important because it helps to expand the mind and develops the imagination.

In order to improve the children's reading further, it is important that they are reading their reading books at home; having their reading record signed to show they have read and bringing their books in on their given reading day each week.

To prepare children for SATs, it is also important they are exposed to and read a range of different texts types, such as: newspapers, non-fiction books, poetry, stories, magazines, leaflets, web pages and adverts.
