    Science Curriculum

At St Matthew's, our science teaching and learning is delivered in accordance with the National Curriculum Programme of Study for Science in Key Stages 1 and 2.

    Science Curriculum Map

This document outlines how science is taught at St Matthew's from Year 1 to Year 6. Each half-term, pupils learn one topic, with every topic designed to follow the National Curriculum Programme of Study for Science. Each topic also focuses on one of the three strands of science – biology (pink), chemistry (blue) or physics (yellow).

In the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS), our science curriculum is embedded through a range of cross-curricular experiences, including English, Maths and Topic. Children focus on developing their understanding of the world in line with the Early Years Foundation Stage statutory framework.

    Working Scientifically

From Year 1 to Year 6, pupils develop their working scienfically skills through each science topic taught across school. These skills are embedded within every unit, allowing pupils to ask questions, make predictions, carry out investigations, observe closely, record and interpret results and draw conclusions.
