At St Matthew’s, we are proud of our provision for pupils with SEND and have created an inclusive teaching environment that offers all pupils, no matter their need or disability, a broad, balanced and challenging curriculum. At St Matthew's, pupils with special educational needs fulfil their potential through reasonable adjustments, adaptive teaching, a bespoke curriculum or purpose-built teaching spaces.
Maple Group
Some children with complex needs may require further support and this provision is different to the support given to other children of the same age with special educational needs. At St Matthew's, children with more complex needs spend part of their day in Maple Group, which is our specialist provision led by a teacher.
Sycamore Group
When pupils transition into KS2, they may still require bespoke teaching to enable them to close gaps and access the demands of the curriculum at a slower pace. For these pupils, they spend part of their day in Sycamore Group, a mixed age group where the focus is on securing basic skills and building firm foundations. Children in this group may not sit all of the end of key stage two assessments, but they leave St Matthew's literate, numerate and secondary ready.
Small Teaching Groups
Those children with special educational needs, who can access an age-appropriate curriculum, have their needs met through our third teacher model in each year group. They are taught in small groups and this allows the teacher to make reasonable adjustments and adapt their teaching to meet their needs and close gaps in learning.
