Rule: You can ONLY multiply/divide to make an equivalent fraction... Whatever I do to the top, I've got to do to the bottom.

Comparing and Ordering Fractions with Different Denominators (fraction strips)

When we compare and order fractions we show we understand how big one fraction is, compared to another. This is very important when the denominators are different. This is part of any math curriculum.
We can use FRACTION STRIPS to work through the comparison. Here's how to do this. When you're done, list the fractions IN THE ORDER the problem tells you, using either the greater than or less than sign to show the size relationship.

Compare & Order Fractions by Equivalency

You've done comparing and ordering of fractions by

• numberline
Now make equivalent fractions to discover relative size order.
This is a much faster method.
