Reading/Phonics

Reading at Home

Your child will receive 3 books.

1. Home Reading Record-this is where you can record when you've heard your child read at home.

2. Phonic Home Reader-reading book. This will be at a slightly easier level than being accessed at school to build children's fluency.

3. Some children will have a book banded book which they get to choose themselves. Alternatively, they will have a phonic book which they have been practising in class.

Your child will read at least once a week by a teacher. However, it is important for your child to have their home reader book in school daily, so their teacher can provide extra support if needed.

Virtual Phonics Lessons

To support your child's phonics and reading, here are some videos to share with your child. These videos are lessons, which means that you don't have to teach them, just play them. Your child is already accessing The Read, Write Inc Phonics Programme in school and these videos will help them to revise the sounds that they are already learning.

Your child's phonic group will be written in their Reading Journals so that you know which lessons to share with your child. However, presently we are revising all sounds, especially from Set 2 to ensure that children are secure in their phonic knowledge ready for the Statutory Phonics Test at the end of this month.

This is a super resource which has been proven to accelerate progress in word reading and fluency and it would be wonderful if you could share one sound per day, or the Word Time Words.
